At StarWhisper, privacy is at the core of everything we do. We believe your voice data is yours alone, and we've built our application with privacy-first principles.

Information We Collect

StarWhisper operates in two distinct modes:

Offline Mode (Default)

• All voice processing happens locally on your device
• No data is sent to any servers
• No internet connection required
• Complete privacy - your voice never leaves your computer

API Mode (Optional)

• Voice data is sent to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription
• Audio is processed and immediately deleted by OpenAI
• Voice recordings are temporarily stored only if transcription fails, for retry purposes
• Transcriptions are only stored locally on your device

Data Storage

All application data is stored locally on your device:

• Transcription history (optional, can be deleted anytime)
• Application settings and preferences
• Wake word detection models
• Local AI models for offline transcription

Third-Party Services

When using API mode, your data is processed by:

• OpenAI Whisper API: Used for cloud-based transcription. OpenAI's privacy policy applies to data processed through their service.

Anonymous Usage Statistics

StarWhisper collects anonymous usage statistics by default to help us improve the application. This includes:

• Number of transcriptions performed (count only)
• Total transcription duration in seconds
• Features used (wake word, local mode, API mode)
• Error counts for debugging
• App version and operating system

What we never collect:

• Transcription content - your words are never uploaded
• Audio recordings
• Personal information or identifiers
• File paths or document names
• IP addresses or device fingerprints

This data is fully anonymous and cannot be linked to you. You can disable anonymous statistics at any time in the application Settings. The choice is presented during installation and can be changed later.

Updates

Application updates are optional and can be downloaded manually. We don't auto-update or collect any information about your installation.

Children's Privacy

StarWhisper does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The application is designed for general use with no age-specific features.

Data Deletion

You can delete all local data at any time through the application settings. Uninstalling StarWhisper completely removes all associated data from your device.
