Transcription History & Export

StarWhisper keeps a local history of all your transcriptions. Search through past entries, review what you dictated, and export your history in multiple formats.

Viewing Your History

Open Settings → History tab to see all your past transcriptions. Each entry shows:

  • The transcribed text
  • Date and time of the transcription
  • Whether it was a live recording or file transcription

Searching

Use the search bar at the top of the History tab to filter your transcriptions. The search matches against the transcribed text content, making it easy to find specific dictations.

Managing History

Deleting Entries

You can delete individual entries or clear your entire history:

  • Individual: Click the delete button next to any entry
  • All History: Click "Delete All History" at the top

Permanent Deletion

Deleted transcriptions cannot be recovered. Make sure to export important transcriptions before deleting them.

Exporting History

Export your transcription history in four different formats. Go to Settings → History tab, select your format from the dropdown, and click "Export History."

Available Formats

Format Extension Best For Description
Plain Text .txt Simple reading One transcription per line, separated by timestamps
Markdown .md Notes apps, documentation Formatted with headers and timestamps
JSON .json Developers, data analysis Structured data with all metadata fields
CSV .csv Spreadsheets, databases Comma-separated values, opens in Excel/Google Sheets

Export Steps

  1. Go to Settings → History tab
  2. Select the export format from the dropdown
  3. Click "Export History"
  4. Choose where to save the file
  5. Open the exported file in your preferred application

Pro Tip

Use CSV format if you want to analyze your dictation patterns in a spreadsheet — you can sort by date, count words, or track usage over time.

Privacy

  • All transcription history is stored locally on your computer in your user profile directory
  • History is never uploaded to any server (even with Cloud Sync enabled)
  • Clearing history permanently removes all entries from your device
  • Uninstalling StarWhisper deletes all history data

Cloud Sync

Cloud Sync syncs your settings, vocabulary, and macros — but never your transcription history. Your dictations stay private on each device.
